Animal shelters across the U.S. are overwhelmed and overflowing. With more workers heading back to the office and pet essentials like food and veterinary care prices swelling, the number of unwanted dogs has climbed.
Stray dogs taken in by shelters have risen 6% in the January to November period compared to 2022 and are up about 22% since 2021, according to Shelter Animals Count, which surveys nearly 7,000 shelters nationally.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 26.72 per cent in September 2023 from 25.80 per cent in August. The Bureau made this known in its CPI report for September, released on Monday via its official X account.

The NBS said the upsurge in inflation is mainly linked to the removal of petrol subsidies and the devaluation of the official exchange rate, both exerting substantial impacts on consumer prices.
